Director of Yoga Lafontaine – School of Enlightenment
Jivan Mukta, PhD, is a Kundalini Yoga Lead Trainer, mentor of teacher trainers, scholar of religious and spiritual experience, and specialist in meditation applied to healing. He directs Yoga Lafontaine – School of Enlightenment, a living school devoted to Kundalini Yoga, meditation, teacher training, healing, and the cultivation of consciousness in everyday life.
Born in Chile and holding both Chilean and Spanish nationality, he studied History and Political Science, completed postgraduate studies in Comparative Religion, and earned his PhD in the Study of Religions from the University of Helsinki. His doctoral research, 3HO in the Light of Experience, examined Kundalini Yoga through lived experience, scholarly inquiry, and qualitative psychological analysis. His academic background brings historical awareness, intellectual honesty, and critical reflection into dialogue with sustained yogic practice.
Jivan Mukta began practising Kundalini Yoga in 2001 and has more than twenty-five years of experience. He has participated in Level 1 teacher training since 2004 and has taught Level 2 for more than fifteen years. He is qualified as a mentor of teacher trainers at both Level 1 and Level 2, supporting experienced teachers as they develop the capacity and maturity required to train others. He also teaches 21 Stages of Meditation as part of the Level 3 journey.
His work includes regular classes, intensive seminars, retreats, mentoring, and long-term teacher training. He has taught in Spain, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Norway, Lithuania, Sweden, Germany, Serbia, Greece, Denmark, Ukraine, Italy, England, the United States, China, Russia, and Chile.
His years in Finland marked an important period in this development. He initiated and helped establish the Kundalini Yoga Association of Finland and was among the pioneers who contributed to the growth of Kundalini Yoga in the country. This foundation was built through years of seva—voluntary service—developing community, resources, and an organisation capable of continuing independently. He currently serves on the Board of the Spanish Kundalini Yoga Association (AEKY) and collaborates with the Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association of Ukraine (KYTAU) through training, mentorship, and community service.
Yoga Lafontaine approaches Kundalini Yoga not merely as physical practice, but as a comprehensive discipline for cultivating vitality, awareness, inner direction, and the capacity to meet life with greater clarity. It is a school where traditional yogic knowledge remains experiential while entering into conversation with psychology, scholarship, and contemporary human needs.
Jivan Mukta is also the founder and director of Meditative Healing and the Meditative Healing Program™, a three-level training that combines meditative techniques, psychologically informed approaches, spiritual traditions, and the study of human experience. The Meditative Healing Program was developed throughout 2011 and first delivered in Finland in 2012. It subsequently grew internationally, with hundreds of people participating in the training.
His work with mantra extends this exploration into music and sound. My Mind Is Thine, his album of six mantras accompanied by the resonance of the gong, approaches mantra as a meditative medium capable of opening the mind to silence, devotion, creativity, and different states of consciousness.
After approximately fifteen years in Finland, Jivan Mukta now lives in Gran Canaria, Spain. From there, he directs Yoga Lafontaine, teaches internationally, develops Meditative Healing, writes, conducts research, and accompanies students, teachers, and future trainers. He is also developing El Santuario de Guía, a place in nature for practice, community, healing, and a more conscious relationship with the natural world.
Across these different areas, his work is guided by a consistent purpose: to preserve the experiential depth of Kundalini Yoga while making it intelligible, relevant, and applicable to contemporary life. Yoga Lafontaine is the living expression of that purpose—a school in which practice, scholarship, healing, creativity, and service meet.
